R.E.A.L. is an acronym for Racism, Equity, Authenticity and Leadership.
R.E.A.L. Talk® creates brave spaces for organizations and groups to discuss racism, equity, and authentic leadership.
I launched R.E.A.L. Talk® in 2020 as the world witnessed the horrific death of George Floyd, who died at the hands of Minneapolis police officers, igniting a global reckoning over systemic racism.
We were all horrifically reminded that racism still exists and that racism can be lethal. We can no longer live with the feelings that “ignorance is bliss” – ignorance is complicity.
To make a change, we need to access the issues and to do this we must have uncomfortable conversations.
There needs to be a bridge where those in privilege can ask uncomfortable questions they have always had but have been too nervous to ask. Like, “How can I have white privilege – I am not wealthy?”, or “if black people can say the ‘N’ word, why can’t I?” my personal favourite “Doesn’t all lives matter?” and many more. These thoughts need to be challenged and reflected back to them.
It all starts with having a R.E.A.L. Talk®.
